A través de la luz.

A contemporary flamenco opera.

'A través de la luz. A contemporary flamenco opera' is a musical show created and produced by Fernando Vacas and performed by Vallellano & The Royal Gypsy Orchestra.

In this spectacle, Vacas takes flamenco’s essential concepts to a new place yet to be explored where one can intuit references like Sonic Youth, David Lynch and Lorca, among others. The result for the viewer is a unique and exciting experience within the scenic arts scene.

The fear of passing away, the tunnel encounter, full of radiant flashes, the sound of emptiness and the existence of a warm, saving light are the true protagonists of this opera based on a true story of a near-death experience.

'A través de la luz. A contemporary flamenco opera' parts from the real experience of a man who suffered an accident and was clinically dead for about three minutes.

While working on stage, a sound technician suddenly gets electrocuted by a high-voltage cable. Making an emergency call, his colleague is strongly recommended by the emergency assistance to not touch his co-worker’s body since this would connect him equally to the electricity.

The spasms caused by the high-voltage electricity lead him to disobey the advice and a larger-than-life, instinctive impulse forces him to viciously kick off the cable and, by doing so, he saves his friend’s life. Three very long minutes from darkness to light.

“Un largo viaje”, interpreted by worldwide hit Rosalía, is the first single from 'A través de la luz. A contemporary flamenco opera.'

The opera guides us through life and death, love, the passing of time, memories and frustrations. The main character embodies the soul. He walks a via crucis through different steps that take him from the most absolute darkness until a point, where, guided by the light, he reaches the last door to death, from where no traveller ever comes back.

After finally accepting the fact that he is dead and, therefore that he will disappear, something takes him surprisingly back to Earth and a new, second opportunity to live is born.

There is a light that never goes out…
